Congratulations to Team TATRC for having not one, but two Labs recognized for their outstanding efforts in two key areas: TATRC’s Mobile Health Innovation Center (mHIC) and our Medical Modeling & Simulation Innovation Center (MMSIC)!

Mr. Geoffrey Miller, Lab Manager and Research Scientist at TATRC’s Medical Modeling and Simulation Innovation Center (MMSIC), was invited to present to the Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education, Improving Health Professional Education and Practice through Technology, at the National Academies of Sciences, Institute of Medicine, in Washington DC on 16 November.

During his last deployment overseas, LTC Tyler Harris, an orthopaedic hand surgeon at Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC), had to perform a neurosurgical procedure as a result of an explosion.

Chris Hildebrandt joins the TATRC team as a Project Officer, with expertise in Human Factors Engineering and will primarily support the Medical Modeling & Simulation Innovation Center.

TATRC’s Medical Modeling & Simulation Innovation Center (MMSIC) is pleased to announce the launch of their newly designed webpage as part of its unique and evolving mission to push forward and aid in the evaluation of emerging medical simulation technologies.

A big shout out and hearty congratulations to Team TATRC for being recognized by the Federal Health (FedHealth) IT Innovation Awards for the BioGears® physiology engine out of TATRC’s Medical Modeling & Simulation Innovation Center (MMSIC) lab, and to the Mobile Health Care Environment (MHCE) project from TATRC’s Mobile Health Innovation Center (mHIC) Lab.

Medical modeling and simulation (MM&S) has a very old (dating back over 1000 years), rich and complicated history, full of stops and starts. In its current iteration, the “modern age” of MM&S, we have witnessed an explosion in the types of simulators and simulations, the technologies driving them, and our understanding of how to best use them to improve the acquisition, retention and transfer of critical medical and healthcare knowledge, skills and behaviors to students, professionals, and the research and development community.

For more than a decade, TATRC has contributed to the growth and success of the International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH). Again in 2017, TATRC’s Medical Modeling & Simulation Innovation Center (MMSIC) leaders planned and executed special events. The IMSH 2017 meeting was held in Orlando, Florida, 29 January through 1 February 2017; with the theme of “Patients: the Heart of Simulation.” More than 2,800 people from 54 countries attended.

On 10 January, Operative Experience Inc. (OEI) was among select Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) performers honored at the White House. The Small Business Administration honored OEI, whose founder and Principal Investigator is Dr. Robert F. Buckman Jr., with a 2016 Tibbetts Award for creating significant economic and social impact through SBIR funding.
