ATA 2007 - Gaylord Opryland, Nashville TN
Welcome
Letter
Held
in conjunction with the American Telemedicine Association's
(ATA) 12th Annual Conference & Symposium, May 13-15,
2007 in Nashville, Tennessee
Welcome
to TATRC's "Hospital of the Future" Session
The
Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC)
is proud to welcome all of you to our seventh annual edition
of the Army Telemedicine Partnership Series. Previous meetings
were International in scope, and focused on telemedicine-related
issues in different parts of the world, with each year concentrating
on the different needs specific to that geographical region.
This year, however, we are taking a very different approach,
and focusing our attention toward the hospital of the future.
The purpose of this day is to present several key themes
related to the design of future hospitals, keeping in mind
that the objective is to explore the potential applications
of technology and innovation which could be utilized in
the future hospitals or have an impact on how future hospitals
are designed. How can critical places such as the operating
room or the radiology suite be improved? How can information
technology be implemented? How can we insure that patients
will be safe during their entire stay? This meeting will
allow participants to learn more about ongoing research
efforts and emerging new technologies, which will enable
healthcare providers the ability to deliver the best and
safest care possible.
This very exciting program will kick off with Opening remarks
from the TATRC Director, the USAMRMC Commander, and the
newly appointed Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health
Affairs. The Commander of the US Army Health Facility Planning
Agency will then talk about the construction of new Army
facilities, such as the future design of the Walter Reed
Army Medical Center. As in previous years, speakers will
each make a presentation followed by interactive discussion
with panel members who will be given an hour to provide
their comments. The 4 key themes will focus on the Operating
Room of the Future, Imaging of the Future, Patient Safety,
and Clinical Informatics. An interactive, buffet style luncheon
will give us the opportunity to listen to a keynote presentation
from James Atkinson, M.D., of the University of California
Los Angeles, UCLA.
I
am very fortunate to be assisted by four outstanding co-chairs
from our organization who will help lead and shape the day.
Col. Ben Boedeker, DVM, M.D., Ph.D., and Ken Curley, M.D,
will be moderating the morning session, and Warren Grundfest,
M.D., and COL Ron Poropatich, M.D. will moderate the afternoon
session. In addition to our speakers and panelists, we have
also invited distinguished colleagues involved in the innovative
design of new medical centers and the insertion of new technologies.
This
is the seventh edition of the MRMC/TATRC Telemedicine Partnership
Series. Year after year, the increasing number of attendees
shows the growing interest generated by this manifestation.
The quality of the speakers and panel members is not foreign
to this growing success. However, an event of such magnitude
could not be possible without the tremendous work and dedication
of the conference planning team, consisting of Ms. Lori
DeBernardis, Ms. Tina Matthews, Mr. Drew Broadhurst, and
the constant and unconditional support from our Commander
and the Director of TATRC. With my gratitude to all of them,
I present to you all my wishes for a very successful meeting.
