09 Vision Research Program Announcement (VRPA)
The Department of Defense (DOD) through the Telemedicine & Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC), has released its' FY 09 Vision Research Program Announcement (VRPA).
Proposal submission is a two-step process. The first step is the submission of a pre-proposal, which will be examined and assessed by the TATRC Review Panel, and researchers will then be contacted to submit a full proposal if selected.

The key areas for research identified in the Program Announcement include:
- Treatments for traumatic brain injury-associated visual dysfunction
- Treatments to slow or stop loss of vision in traumatic optic neuropathies;
- Computational models of mechanisms of primary blast injury to the eye and vision system
- Methods to test visual dysfunction in the presence of cognitive impairment
- Treatments for blast and burn injury to ocular structures.
We anticipate that seven to nine grants will be funded, although that will vary based on the submitted proposals. The amount available to be awarded is approximately $5.2M.
